RMD is unlikely to run for president, even if he wanted to: (a) both he and his wife are not in especially good health, (b) he is set up pretty nicely in Chicago, (c) he’s got the usual Chicago sleaze in his vita, which I don’t think will go down too well right now, (d) more importantly, he’s got a positions on a lot of social issues that went down OK in Chicago but would be trouble nationally (think Guiliani but without the aura of 911).

If you can find such a study, I'd love to note if your theory of the Clinton romp through the first rounds of primaries is justified by something other than intuition and media reports. Daley (Mayor, City of Chicago) basically personally decided at least one Presidential election (1960) for trivial reasons of local Chicago politics, I'd see he qualifies.
